NEW YORK (PIX11) — The New York area may have been spared the worst of Hurricane Arthur, but that doesn’t mean its residents aren’t still feeling its effects.
Beach-goers in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau County and Suffolk County are at high risk of big waves, as the storm is churning up rip currents up and down the East Coast, the National Weather Service said.
Swimmers should be aware of signs and flags on the shore. Anyone caught in a rip current should swim parallel to the shore, not against the current toward the shore.
The rip currents are considered to be high-risk until about 2 p.m.
