BROOKLYN (PIX11) -- A seemingly emotionally disturbed man attacked a small child inside a Brooklyn park Tuesday afternoon.

At about 12:30 p.m., the NYPD responded to a call about a boy assaulted at the Detective Dillon Stewart Playground in Winthrop.

The boy is not being identified but he was crying at the park. Witnesses tell PIX11 the man kicked the boy for no apparent reason and continued to hit the boy.

One witness said, "Who would want to kick a little boy maybe four or five-years-old? If he can kick a child, he can kill someone."

The child is expected to be OK. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

So far no charges have been filed against him.

Meanwhile, some parents in the park say attacks like this on children are happening all too often.

Guerline Jean, a mother of two,  said, "We need more police out here, but I am glad they came and caught the man in action."
