NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say they’ve rescued two shivering water scooter riders who’d been missing in Jamaica Bay for nine hours.

Officers George Delegianis and Andy Novellano say the 26-year-old man and woman were sharing a watercraft launched from Rockaway at about 9:30 p.m. Monday. They were rescued at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

They say the duo was found sitting on the slowly sinking vehicle among razor sharp reeds in a foot of water. They were spotted in Big Egg Marsh, which is part of the federal preserve.

The veteran harbor officers say their boat, FDNY boats and NYPD helicopters had searched for hours along miles of shoreline and marshy area.

They say the two were rushed to a hospital with hypothermia.
