NEW YORK (PIX11) — Two decades ago, life was compared to a box of chocolates, and whether viewers realized it or not, they were taught some invaluable lessons from it.

“Forrest Gump” is celebrating 20 years since it first hit theaters back in 1994. It won six Oscars, including best picture, and brought in close to $700 million at the box office its opening weekend.

Tom Hanks won his second best actor Oscar for his role in the film that portrayed him as a leg-braced, low-IQ Southerner. Now, Hanks, Robin Wright, Mykelti Williamson, Gary Sinise, Sally Field and Haley Joel Osment will soon hit the big screen again.

Paramount will release the film in IMAX theaters on Sept. 5, 2014, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
