WAKEFIELD, Bronx (PIX11) — Bullets went flying at a loud and crowded outdoor party in the Wakefield section early Sunday morning, killing one teen, and injuring two others.
Police say 17-year-old Keshon Porterfield was struck in the torso, and died. Another 17-year-old boy was hit in the leg, and a girl, also 17, was shot in the foot.
The gunfire broke out around 1 a.m. in the backyard of 756 East 232nd Street, sending 200 to 300 partygoers running for their lives, according to police.
Fitzroy Peters, who lives next to the house where the party was held, said the music blasted through the neighborhood.
“I was thinking of calling the cops to shut the noise down. It was that loud. It was actually out of control,” Peters said.
Police at the 47th precinct have been questioning a person of interest about the shooting which may have been gang related.
Sources tell PIX11 a weapon recovered in the front of the house turned out to be a BB gun.
A single candle was burning Sunday afternoon outside the Edenwald houses where Keshon Porterfield lived with his grandmother and sister.
Next door neighbor Mary Golden choked back tears as she tried to process the loss of the teen who she said was troubled and needed more adult supervision.
“If I could have helped him, I would have,” she said. “He wasn’t the type of child that would take help.”
