BROOKLYN (PIX11) –– Crews started dismantling the Kentile Floors sign in Brooklyn on Thursday.
The iconic landmark was erected in the late 1940’s and was visible from the F train and the Gowanus Expressway. The owner of the building received a permit from the city to remove the sign, despite protests from area residents.
“I think it would just be a shame to take it down. It’s kind of a landmark now,” said Park Slope resident Avi Azouz.
A light show was supposed to illuminate the sign on Friday evening. With two letters from the sign already missing it’s unclear if the show will go on Friday.
