NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) – A spokesman for actor and comedian Tracy Morgan says he faces an “arduous” recovery after a New Jersey weekend car accident that badly injured him and killed one of his friends.

Spokesman Lewis Kay said in an email Monday that Morgan underwent surgery on a broken leg at a New Brunswick hospital and remains in critical but stable condition. Morgan’s fiancee is at his side.

A Wal-Mart truck driver has been charged with vehicular homicide and assault by auto in the Saturday morning crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. Authorities say the Georgia trucker hadn’t slept for more than 24 hours before the crash.

Besides Morgan, three other people were injured and 62-year-old comedian James McNair died.

The accident occurred in a congested area where a five-year road widening project is in progress.
