NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — Eyewitness recorded cellphone video just moments after this weekend’s crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Comedian Tracy Morgan and several other people were trapped inside the overturned luxury van after it was rear ended by a tractor trailer driver.

Morgan’s friend and mentor, comedian James McNair, was killed in the accident.

Two people can be seen pulling someone out of the vehicle.

In newly released 911 audio recordings, other eyewitnesses describe the scene.

Investigators say a driver for mega retailer Wal-Mart, Kevin Roper, had been up and awake for far too long before he plowed into the back of Morgan’s van.

The former Saturday Night Live cast member, now recovering a Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, suffered several broken bones.

A spokesman for the comedian said Morgan will face an “arduous” recovery.

A criminal complaint alleges Roper, 35, operated the vehicle quote “without having slept for a period in excess of 24 hours resulting in a motor vehicle accident.”

Roper has since been charged with death by auto and assault by auto, and Morgan’s friends are pulling for the comedian.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating this crash because commercial vehicles were involved.

Roper has been placed on leave from Wal-Mart and the company’s president says Wal-Mart will take full responsibility if authorities determine its truck caused the crash.
