NEW YORK (AP/PIX11) – The New York Police Department has arrested a suspect in a knife attack that left a 6-year-old boy dead and a 7-year-old girl critically injured in a public housing building that didn’t have security cameras.

Daniel St. Hubert was apprehended near 145th Street and 133rd Avenue in Ozone Park Wednesday evening, shortly after being identified by police.

Police Commissioner Bratton said that St. Hubert had a last known address in East New York.

St. Hubert was paroled on May 23 for domestic assault, investigators said. The suspect has a violent past, having previously assaulted a police officer and a corrections officer.

Police say Prince Joshua Avitto and his friend Mikayla Capers were riding in an elevator in East New York’s Boulevard Houses to get ice cream Sunday when they were randomly attacked. Chicago Bulls power forward Taj Gibson says Prince was his cousin.

Police say the attacker used a steak knife to stab each child multiple times.

Police say they’re investigating whether the attacker also may have fatally stabbed an 18-year-old woman days earlier a few blocks away. A similar knife was recovered at the scene of that slaying.
