‘Special Weather Alert’: Strong thunderstorms headed for NYC, NJ

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The National Weather Service is warning of strong thunderstorms heading toward New York City, Northeast New Jersey and the lower Hudson Valley.

The radar is tracking a strong system and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes should be expected.  Winds of 45 mph are possible, along with heavy rainfall reaching 2 inches per hour.

The National Weather Service is urging people in the five boroughs, as well as Eastern Essex, Eastern Passaic, Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Western Bergen and Western Union counties to monitor local weather alerts and stay indoors.
