QUEENS (PIX11) – A high school gym teacher is accused of raping a 16-year-old student on school property, authorities said.
Joy Morsi, 39, of Massapequa, was charged Tuesday with 41 criminal counts, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
Morsi was a gym teacher at Grover Cleveland High School in Queens. It’s there that prosecutors say she had sex with a male student on multiple occasions between June 5, 2013, and July 24, 2013.
The alleged victim was 16 years old at the time.
“This case is particularly disturbing because the defendant is a teacher and schools should be safe havens for children,” District Attorney Richard Brown said. “Instead, this defendant is accused of sexually preying upon one of her students during rendezvous all over the school.”
Morsi has been charged with 20 counts of third-degree rape, 20 counts of third-degree criminal sexual act and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
If convicted, Morsi faces up to four years in prison. Her bail was set at $25,000.
A message to Morsi’s attorney was not returned by the time of publication.
