NEW YORK (AP/PIX11) — New York City’s first family is finally making the move from Brooklyn to Manhattan, almost six months into the mayor’s first term in office.
The de Blasios are trading in their Park Slope digs for Gracie Mansion, the official mayor’s residence which has been empty for more than a decade.
De Blasio’s predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, chose to remain in his Upper East Side townhouses.
A Democrat elected in November, de Blasio debated for weeks about whether to move out of his family’s longtime home in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
The family eventually decided to relocate but then delayed the start of the actual move. It began Monday and will continue through September.
The announcement that the move has begun was made on First Lady Chirlane McCray’s blog.
The website DNAInfo.com reported that the family left some unwanted free items on the curb outside their home on Saturday.
