COLUMBUS, Ohio (PIX11) – What should have been a joyous occasion turned to tragedy when a little girl drowned during a birthday party over the weekend.

The 4-year-old was wearing a “float vest” when somehow she sank beneath the water at a home on Manitoba Road on the north side of Columbus, Ohio.

Police said it appears the75 to 100 partygoers were distracted, singing Happy Birthday to a 1-year-old when the girl went into the pool.

After the song stopped, the little girl was spotted in the pool.

Sinaia M. Moore was pulled from 4 feet of water about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, The Columbus Dispatch reports. She was pronounced dead at a hospital some 20 minutes later.

Investigators said it does not appear to be any criminal intent in Moore’s untimely death.

“I see nothing that indicates that anyone was inattentive, negligent in any manner,” Columbus police Sgt. Christ Holzhauser told the Dispatch. “It just seems like this is clearly a sad, unfortunate accident.”
