MAPLEWOOD, N.J. (PIX11) – A person was killed Friday when a floor collapsed at a New Jersey restaurant, authorities said.

The collapse was reported about 9:35 a.m. at Coda Kitchen & Bar located at 177 Maplewood Ave.

Two construction workers were in the restaurant’s basement when the collapse happened. They were working on a staircase to the restaurant’s first floor when that floor fell on top of them, police said.

The worker pronounced dead at the scene was identified as 50-year-old Guo tai Chen.

The other injured worker was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

A third person was also at the restaurant at the time of the collapse — which opens at 11:30 a.m. on Fridays — but was not hurt.
