Violent night of shootings in NYC kills 1, injures 8

(PIX11/AP) – Memorial Day was followed by a violent night in New York City, where eight people were shot and one person was killed by gunfire, police said.

Gunfire injured three people – two 18-year-old women and a 24-year-old man – during a shootout after a party spilled out into a Brooklyn street, police said.

It happened on East 95th Street near Avenue M in the Canarsie section. No arrests have been made in that shooting.

There were at least three other shootings in Brooklyn overnight, police said.

One person was shot and killed in the 500 block of 49th Street;

At least one person was shot in the 200 block of Meserole Avenue;

And at least one other person was shot near Linden Boulevard and Georgia Avenue.

At least one person was shot at each of the following locations, as well, according to NYPD:

  • 70 block of La Salle Street in Manhattan;
  • 600 block of West 204th Street in Manhattan;
  • Jamaica Avenue and 127th Street in Queens.

On Long Island Monday night, a man was killed when party crashers showed up at a home in Central Islip. When the uninvited guests were asked to leave, a fight ensued and at least one shot was fired.
