CENTRAL ISLIP, Long Island (PIX11) – Two men were shot, one of them fatally, at a Memorial Day house party on Long Island, police said.

Shots rang out about 9:50 p.m. Monday at a home on Rosewood Street in Central Islip, Suffolk County Police Department said Tuesday morning.

That’s where an unknown amount of uninvited guests showed up to a party and when they were asked to leave, a fight ensued in the street in front of the home, police said. At least one shot was fired.

One man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second man was hurt, but it’s not clear how. His injuries appear to be non-life threatening, police said.

The victims’ names are being withheld until their families are notified. No arrests have been made.

Deadly gunfire on Long Island reflected similar violence in New York City, where eight people were shot and one person killed as Memorial Day turned into a violent night.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call the department’s Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
