LAS VEGAS (PIX11)– Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards featured a hologram of pop icon Michael Jackson as part of a “history-making performance.”

The hologram appeared with non-holographic dancers and pyrotechnics that had audience members dancing in their seats at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The performance began with a synchronized SWAT team dancing until a curtain dropped, revealing the Jackson hologram.

Jackson performed the previously unreleased “Slave to the Rhythm,” a catchy dance number from his second posthumous album, “Xscape.”

The album was released last week.

The impromptu concert of the late pop star caught viewers by surprise.

Reviews of the performance were mixed.

The memes exploded shortly after the performance.

A federal judge ruled on Friday that the Billboard Music Awards could use a hologram of Jackson, rejecting efforts from tech companies trying to block the performance.

Other performers include Katy Perry, Robin Thicke and Carrie Underwood.
