BABYLON, N.Y. (PIX11) — A 20-year-old Long Island man was stabbed and killed Saturday afternoon after an altercation near baseball fields.

A witness broke up a fight between the 28-year-old Michael Grusel and 20-year-old James Moran.

Moran ran to a nearby baseball field where he told Little League coaches he had been stabbed.

The Little League of Babylon put a halt to games for the rest of the day while police investigated.

Police were concerned that children may have seen some of the altercation, but said there was no connection between the men involved or the games.

Moran was stabbed once in the torso and died after being taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.

A man, who would only identify himself as Vinny, said the man being charged in the stabbing was simply trying to defend himself.

“Very good individual, very quiet,” Vinny said. “And he’s being railroaded for this. These guys tried to rob him, he protected himself. That’s the way it went down.”

Homicide Squad detectives charged Grusel with manslaughter in the first degree.
