NEW YORK (PIX11) — Friday, May 16 is ride your bike to work day, just make sure to wear your rain gear.

The Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association want commuters to help the environment by bicycling to work.

Seventy nine pit stops will host Bike to Work Day events throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Take a break at a pit stop on your way to work for lots of food, fun and prizes.

While doing so, you will also celebrate a clean, fun, and healthy way to get to work.

As a reward for biking, you can also get free coffee this morning at any of 9 participating locations.

There’s also an after-party in Dumbo Friday night.

You can drink Brooklyn beer at the Pearl street triangle.

By the way, the beers are not free.

    Most New Yorkers who ride BICYCLES never follow the rules. They ride against traffic, they ride on the sidewalk,  they don’t stop at red lights or stop signs. It seems that the just don’t care about anyone or anything around them.  See what can be done.
