OZONE PARK, Queens (PIX11) — A bicyclist struck by a van that fled the scene has died from his injuries, police said Monday morning

The deceased, identified only as a 40-year-old man, was riding his bicycle near Rockaway Boulevard and 90th Street about 9:30 p.m. Sunday when he was sideswiped by a black Mercedes Benz van, police said.

The bicyclist was knocked to the ground then run over by the van, police said.

The van’s driver momentarily stopped, exiting the van as though to help, then returned to the Mercedes and drove away, traveling west on Rockaway Boulevard.

The victim suffered severe head trauma and was taken to a hospital where he later died.

No arrests have been made and an investigation in the deadly hit-and-run is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to call police.
