DUMBO, Brooklyn (PIX11) — The owner of Bacchus Bistro in Brooklyn and a group of volunteers teamed up to host a wedding for a couple left stranded after their original venue closed without warning.
After reBar’s owner, Jason Stevens, suddenly shut down the restaurant of Friday, manager Orlando St. Preux told PIX11 News that he and other reBar staffers would work to put on the two weddings scheduled for reBar this weekend, even after their former boss failed to pay them on Friday.
Bacchus Bistro agreed to host the wedding after reBar was padlocked shut.
“I think it’s very nice how everyone is coming together,” said Stephanie Kutch.
She and Christian Pescarella paid reBar in full for their 2015 wedding. Now they’re worried they won’t get their money back.
“He took $17,500 of our savings that we worked hard for,” Pescarella said. “We’re working class people, were not rich. We saved this money and now it’s gone.”
Pescarella is now speaking with other couples in the same position to see if they can work together to get information from reBar’s owner.
Jason Stevens did not respond to PIX11’s request for a comment.
