NEW YORK (PIX11) — With a strong on-shore flow and a nearly stationary warm front just south and west of the area, temperatures will cool Thursday night.

Light rain and drizzle will develop into the overnight and there could a few downpours into Friday morning.

Conditions during the morning commute could be similar to what happened Thursday, with showers creating an inconvenience during the rush. Depending on the location of the warm front and the cloud cover in the afternoon, there will be quite a spread of temperatures from east to west. Areas across Long Island could be stuck in the upper 50s while interior sections could reach 70 degrees.

Regardless of where the warm front is located Friday morning, the front will lift northward allowing for a warm Saturday. Temperatures will climb to the 70s for the entire region but showers could develop by the afternoon and into the evening as the trailing cold front progresses eastward. Fortunately, the front weakens so showers wont be widespread and be on the light side.

Despite the passage of the cold front, it will still be on the warm side for Mother’s Day. With a Bermuda High developing, a southerly flow will persist and temperatures will be flirting with 80 from Sunday through at least Tuesday. Areas along the south shore will be a bit cooler with ocean temperatures in the 50s.
