NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – A babysitter has been arrested in the death of a 4-year-old girl who was in her care, authorities said Thursday.

Sakita Covington, 38, of Newark, faces four counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of aggravated assault, all second-degree crimes, prosecutors said.

Covington was in charge of four “very young children” Wednesday morning at a home on North Munn Street in Newark, N.J., according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police were called to the home about 10:45 a.m. and found a 4-year-old girl unresponsive and rushed her to a hospital.

The young girl, identified as Naira Bennett, died that night, officials said. Her cause of death is under investigation.

The girl’s babysitter is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility, authorities said.

I hope that pic was not a mug shot. If it was I feel they are taking religous beliefs, and culture beliefs way too far. A mug shot is to be able to identify the person in custody. Also was she allowed to wear that while in custody? She's able to hang herself with strips of that and than there will be an investigation on why she had it and allowed to.
