PIX11’s official announcement is below.

NEW YORK, April 22, 2014 – PIX11 and Mr. G are proud to partner with Municipal Credit Union, the New York City Department of Education, the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, the United Federation of Teachers, the City University of New York, and the Daily News in the “Build a Better School” initiative, a contest that awards public schools across the five boroughs with monetary prizes to help students achieve their academic goals while improving their school.

Middle school and high school students are invited to submit a three-minute video explaining what their school needs, how the proposed idea would improve the school, and what project they would undertake. Winning schools in each borough will receive a monetary award, and one school will be awarded a grand prize of $10,000.

Winners will be selected based on the school’s need, the spirit of students’ collaboration as demonstrated in the submitted video, project creativity, and the project’s connection to an academic goal.

“As a former New York City school teacher and adjunct professor at Hofstra University, I’m proud to be a part of a program that provides students directly with what they need in order to improve their schools, through a process where the students are expressing their needs,” said Mr. G. “On behalf of myself and PIX11, I do hope this program becomes an evergreen and continues until every school has the resources they need to succeed.”

“PIX11 is honored to be a partner in the ‘Build a Better School’ initiative and we will use our full resources to bring awareness to this cause and to reiterate the importance of education,” said Rich Graziano, President/GM, PIX11.
