WESTCHESTER (PIX11) — An off-duty NYPD officer has been charged with assault after allegedly shooting a man inside a vehicle in Westchester Tuesday night.

Reports say the shooting happened around midnight near the Pelham-New Rochelle border.

The yet to be identified officer, apparently unprovoked, fired into a car with two people inside.

Reports say the officer was unprovoked when he fired into the car.

The victim was then driven to Montefiore Medical Center.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said the officer could also be charged with DUI.

This incident comes one week after an on-duty NYPD officer accidentally shot his partner in the wrist, after the pair had also been drinking.

Bratton said reports of officers misusing alcohol were “concerning.”
