THE BRONX (PIX11) — A speeding cab wasn’t enough to shake a determined thief who was caught on camera clinging to the side of a taxi as it barreled down the freeway after a failed carjacking attempt.

Police said the wild ride happened about 2 a.m. Monday along the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx, the speed limit for which is between 50 and 55 mph depending on the section.

Video of the bizarre – and dangerous – scene was captured by a fellow driver, who appeared to stick their camera outside of their car’s sunroof to record.

It all started when a man allegedly tried to steal the taxi, but instead of handing over the keys, the cabbie hit the gas. Clinging for his life and trying to climb onto the top of the taxi, the would-be carjacker hangs on for several moments as the cab speeds along.

When the taxi finally stopped, the suspect allegedly hopped off and absconded with another vehicle. He was caught after crashing that second car.

Matthew McCorkle, 26, of the Bronx, was arrested early Monday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, robbery and grand larceny, NYPD said. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
