FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (PIX11) — An arrest has been made after an 18-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed and left for dead by an attacker who drove away in her family’s car, officials said Tuesday.
A $2,500 reward had been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Winston Wilson Jr., 24, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery and weapons charges, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police said Wilson and his alleged victim knew each other.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was home alone when the attack happened about 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Vanderbilt Avenue in Franklin Township, police said.
She was beaten and repeatedly stabbed all over her body, suffering a head injury and lacerations to her neck, arms and upper torso.
Police said she fought back and investigators saw signs of a struggle when they searched her bedroom.
Bloodied, the woman staggered to a neighbor’s home for help and was taken to a hospital. She underwent emergency surgery and remained in critical condition Tuesday, officials said.
Tips from the public lead investigators Monday night to the family’s black four-door Mazda, which the attacker fled the scene in, parked and empty behind the Rivendell Apartments in Edison, N.J., police said.
It was at those apartments that police found and arrested Wilson.
Investigators have not released a motive for the attack but said it was an isolated incident and the 18-year-old was the intended target.
