BROOKLYN (PIX11) – Two NYPD detectives, partners at the 75th Precinct have lots of explaining to do — especially Det. Jay Poggi, a 31 year veteran.

According to court documents, Poggi, 57, accidentally shot his partner in the wrist, while intoxicated early Thursday morning.

Then after the shooting, the detective rushed his partner to Jamaica Hospital, but he was taken into custody after a senior officer noticed Poggi’s eyes were blood shot red and his blood alcohol level was .113.

Poggi, a 31 year veteran, was charged with DWI after the incident.

The criminal complaint goes on to say while on duty working a case in Queens, Poggi was showing his partner the barrel of his gun when the weapon went off.

But what the complaint his missing how Poggi got drunk in the first place, while on duty.

Poggi has since been charged with DWI.

An NYPD Internal Affair Bureau Investigation is ongoing.
