NEW YORK (AP/PIX11) — New York city police say a uniformed officer shot and killed an 86-year-old man after he refused to drop his gun.

Police say a 911 call came in at 11:16 a.m., and the caller said he had shot his daughter.”I’m having an argument with my daughter and I’m going to shoot her and her dog,” the man said.

Police say officers found a man armed with a gun and the man refused an order to drop his weapon, then pointed his gun at the officers; one of the officers then shot him.

The man, later identified as Jack Calvello, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Inside the house, police found his 65-year-old daughter Carolann Matyka with a gunshot wound to the head. She was rushed to the hospital but died.

Her beloved Yorkshire Terrier had also been shot.

A neighbor said the Matyka doted on her pooch.

“She used to walk by my house with her dog and say hi to my father,” Alicia Galicia told PIX11. “She used to be a very nice lady.”

Sources say Calvello did not have a history of domestic violence.

“This is a very peaceful block,” neighbor Andrew Fisher said. “I can’t believe this is happening now.”

The dog is being treated at a local ASPCA and is expected to survive.
