EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) — It’s been almost a month since an explosion changed East Harlem but the pain is still fresh for the people who experienced it firsthand.

City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito held an event to honor the first responders who were first to arrive on the scene at 116th street and Park Avenue.

Mark-Viverito broke down thinking about the lives lost that day.
“I am not crying for me but for everyone else,” said Mark-Viverito.
Dozens of first responders including FDNY, NYPD and OEM attended the event, to celebrate and reflect on what happened.

Many of them describe the explosion as “9/11 in East Harlem.”
