ROSLYN HEIGHTS, Long Island (PIX11) — A pickup truck driver died Tuesday after losing control and crashing into a charter bus on Long Island, officials said.

Investigators said Facundo R. Ponce, 43, of Glen Head, was driving his 2006 Dodger pickup truck along Rosyln Road when he lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.

The truck collided with a charter bus, which drove into a tree to try to avoid the careening pickup, officials said.

Ponce was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The bus’ 60-year-old driver and his sole passenger — a 38-year-old man — were extricated from the mangled bus and listed in critical condition, officials said.

The pickup truck is undergoing safety inspections, police said. An investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing.
