NEW YORK (PIX11) — The Hudson Valley SPCA is seeking donations after an early morning fire killed two dogs, injured five others and destroyed one of the kennels Sunday morning.
Joe, who volunteers at the shelter, told PIX11 the fire took the lives of two beloved dogs, Harley and Johnny. The fire did substantial damage to the shelter’s kennel, leaving 35 animals displaced.
“It is every rescuer’s worst nightmare: The predawn call that their shelter is on fire,” a message on the shelter’s website reads.
The shelter is seeking monetary donations to help rebuild and for veterinary bills, as well as donations of food, bedding, cleaning supplies and leases.
The shelter says the displaced animals have all been placed in foster homes.
“We pray for those souls who were lost and have to be grateful that the losses weren’t larger than this,” the shelter wrote on their Facebook page.
