NEW JERSEY (PIX11) —  The days of free bread with dinner seem to be crumbling.

More and more restaurants are asking you to come up with some extra dough to have that little basket on your table.

They cite high costs for all those crusts but many customers are calling it a crummy move.

On a night out, they say they need their bread and that for the prices some restaurants charge.

    I seem to recall hearing many years ago that in New York (city? state?) Free provision of the basket of bread Is mandatory: A state or city requirement. So it's the bread basket optional…or not?
