PIX11 partners with National Action Network for national convention

NEW YORK, March 19, 2014 –PIX11 has partnered with the National Action Network (NAN) to serve as the broadcast media partner for the 16th Annual National NAN Convention in New York City April 9-12.  Together National Action Network (NAN) and PIX11 will highlight our commitments to improving civil rights for all and emphasize the importance of equal justice.

The convention will feature a special address by President Obama, and feature US Attorney General Eric Holder, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. This will be the largest civil rights convening of the year bringing the nation’s top activists, political strategists and leading academia together to create an action plan for a civil rights agenda with participants addressing key policy issues.

PIX11 will provide full coverage of the National Action Network convention, on-site from the convention floor with segments airing each day on PIX11 News and pix11.com. Additionally, PIX11 will produce a 30-minute special on the convention to air on Saturday, April 12 at 10:30pm.

The convention will convene its annual leadership forum “Measuring the Movement: 50 Years after President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty,” which will be hosted by Rev. Al Sharpton on Saturday, April 12th and include participation from the leadership of the National Action Network, Lorraine C. Miller of NAACP, Sherrilyn Ifill from NAACP LDF, Marc Morial from National Urban League, Melanie Campbell from NCBCP and a special youth panel. The convention will also feature the annual Keepers of the Dream Awards on Wednesday, April 9th, the Women’s Power Breakfast on Thursday, April 10th and the Minister’s Breakfast on Friday, April 11th.

On Thursday, April 10th, Jay Dow, PIX11’s two-time Emmy Award-winning correspondent, will speak on the Media Panel. “The Role of Media in Crafting the Social Narrative” will be moderated by Reverend Al Sharpton and Jay will join esteemed panelists: Jonathan Alter, Former Senior Editor, Newsweek Magazine, George Curry, Columnist, Editor-in-Chief, NNPA News Service, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Editor and Publisher, The Nation, Joe Madison, Host, The Joe Madison Show on Sirius XM Urban View and Desiree Rogers, President & CEO, Johnson Publishing Company.
