UPPER WEST SIDE (PIX11) – As police remove the the body of a 71-year-old father from his Upper West Side apartment on Columbus Avenue, his neighbors are in shock to hear what happened —  but not surprised that  his 27-year-old son is a suspect.

Police told PIX11 they were called to the building around 6 a.m.  Inside an 8th-floor apartment they found the man, Darlington Powe, and his wife, Alicia Powe, both with several stab wounds, apparently from a sharp pair of scissors.

Darlington Powe,71, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The father, who was stabbed multiple times in the face and chest, was declared dead at the scene.  The mother is in stable condition at St. Lukes Hospital, according to police.

Neighbors said they would hear arguing coming from the couple’s apartment on the 8th floor, and that their son, Anthony Powe, sounded like the aggressor.

PIX11 has learned the son lives across town on East 93rd Street — police found him running from his parent’s apartment through Central Park right after the stabbing.

He is now in custody at the 19th precinct.  A source says police responded to at least eight domestic violence incidents involving the couples’ son.

Anthony Powe now faces charges of 2nd degree murder and assault.
