NEW YORK (PIX11) – The New York Knicks formally announced Phil Jackson as president of the team on Tuesday.

“There’s no place better to win than in New York City,” Jackson said.  “It really is something special.”

“There is only one Phil Jackson, and he is synonymous with winning basketball teams,” said Mr. Dolan. “His history of success in the NBA is unrivaled, and he is the ideal executive to lead our team and develop short and long-term plans that build a successful franchise and result in an NBA championship. That is our only goal, and what our loyal fans deserve.”

Jackson signed a five year contract with the team. His work will focus on building a winning roster. “I will be visiting the team this week before their game,” Jackson explained. “I’ve had a conversation with Mike Woodson in supporting him trying to make the playoffs this year.”

Frank Isola, a sportswriter with the New York Daily News believes Jackson is up to the challenge of turning the team around. Isola told PIX 11 News, “it takes a lot of energy to do this job but he sounds like he’s up for it because he traded in the beach for the cold weather of new York and its going to be a long rebuilding process.”
