BROOKLYN (PIX11) – Police are looking for a man who viciously beat, stabbed and slashed a hard working livery cab driver.

Salomon Alcantara was driving his cab early Sunday when he picked up a round-trip fare in South Brooklyn. But at the end of the trip, the man didn’t want to pay.

The passenger announced a robbery and when Alcantara tried to flee, he was attacked outside the Malboro Houses in Gravesend.

A message from Alcantara’s wife to the attacker; “You need to be locked up. You need to be off the streets. You are an animal.”  Maritza Alcantara translated for her husband Tuesday in front of the livery company they work for. She said her husband is still terrified and in great pain.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a one thousand dollar reward to help police find the man. “When one of our own is assaulted and attempted murder on a driver, we need to unite and we need to send a message that we’re going to do whatever it takes to catch this guy.” said spokesman Fernando Mateo.

Police described the suspect as a black man, in his late 40s with a salt and pepper goatee. He is about 5’7″ and weighs approximately 175 lbs.

According to Mateo, police were trying to get an image of the suspect off the car’s camera.
