Happy St. Paddy’s Day, NOT ‘St. Patty’s Day’

Let’s get it right: It’s Happy St. Paddy’s Day, not “St. Patty’s Day.”

Although it’s common for people to abbreviate St. Patrick’s with “Patty,” it is technically incorrect.

According to paddynotpatty.com (Yes, there is a website dedicated to this), Paddy comes from the Irish Pádraig.

Patty, short for Patricia, is feminine.

So remember, it’s Paddy, not Patty.

To avoid confusion, maybe we should just stick with “Happy St. Patrick’s Day.”
