NYC Alerts: Thousands of Orthodox Jews gathered in Lower Manhattan

LOWER MANHATTAN (PIX11)-  Thousands of Orthodox Jews gathered in Lower Manhattan Sunday afternoon to protest proposed draft laws in Israel.

The large protest temporarily shut down traffic on Water and Wall Street.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews have been long time exempt from serving in the Israeli military, meanwhile it is mandatory for every other Israeli citizen.

Last month the Israeli government proposed a new law that would require a certain number of yeshiva students be eligible to be drafted.
