NEW YORK (PIX11) — The American Atheists group asked an appeals court to remove the “miracle cross” from the 9/11 Museum.

The 17-foot, cross-shaped beam became a famous symbol of Ground Zero after the terror attacks. Atheists called it a religious symbol that has no place on government-owned land.

They said it doesn’t represent all of the victims and suggested including a plaque that reads: Atheists also died here.

A judge is trying to decide if the steel beam is a religious symbol or piece of history.
