HOUSTON (PIX11) — A Texas man risked his life to rescue an injured dog stranded on the side of a busy highway and the heartwarming scene was all caught on camera.

KHOU in Houston reports that contractor Ricky Young heard reports on the radio about the dog in the HOV lane of the Eastex Freeway last Friday and decided he needed to do something to help.

“I’m just kind of a softy on that stuff. I have a dog and would hate to see him on a highway like that,” Young told the station.

The Good Samaritan pulled his truck over and tried to get the injured yellow lab to come with him.

At firs the dog backs away, but Young was able to lure her in with a sandwich.

Young took the dog to the Houston SPCA, where veterinarians said she had broken bones and internal bleeding.

“I could see that she was thankful and she was happy to be in a safer environment,” Young said.

The dog, which is believed to be a stray, is expected to be okay.
