Police shoot Brooklyn woman after lunging at them with large knife

Crown Heights, BROOKLYN (PIX11)– A police officer shot a woman Saturday afternoon after they say she lunged at them with a large knife.

Police shot the Brooklyn woman in her apartment at the corner of Brooklyn Avenue and Bergen Street.

Police say the woman is in her 30’s and is emotionally disturbed and her parents made the call.


When police arrived at the apartment,  her parents let them in.

A deputy chief says when the officer approached the woman, she lunged at them with a 15-inch knife.

An officer fired one shot and struck her in the torso.

The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

Officers found a total of three knives in the apartment.

Both officers were taken to area hospitals where one is being treated for a back injury, and the other is being evaluated.

No charges have been filed yet.
