NEW YORK (PIX11) – According to the trade organizations representing clowns, fewer young people are interested in getting into the clown business and older clowns are retiring, so we face a clown shortage!

Membership at the World Clown Association, the country’s largest trade group for clowns has dropped by 1000 members since 2004.

But Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Baily Circus claims that is not happening with their circus, and in fact, they only select a handful of people who try to get into their very rigorous clown college.
