Bronx neighbors call for elevator at subway station

It hasn’t worked in 30 years.

The MTA decommissioned the elevator outside the East 149th Street and Grand Concourse Station due to security concerns.

Neighbors, students and riders have staged two rallies at the site. The shaft is located in front of Hostos Community College.

A media representative says the college believes there is a need for an elevator.

100 stations are being made accessible over the next decade. The E 149th Street/Grand Concourse station is not one of them. The station is connected to the 149th Street/3rd Avenue station which has an elevator.

The MTA recently finished remodeling the Dyckman Street Station on the 1 line. It includes an elevator.
