STATEN ISLAND (PIX11) – New York Public Schools haven’t been on anyone’s good list lately, with Thursday’s snow snafu just another chapter.

But one Staten Island high school student through he’d organize all these issues through Facebook. At last check, the page had 37,525 likes.

Jeremy Duenas, 15, started a Facebook page with a simple objective: “Close NYC Schools During Snow Emergencies,” where students were free to share the issues they experienced during the trying day.  As frustrated parents and students dealt with the schools being open as they could, with a slim 44% attendance reported.

“A kid she showed up to school, and she was 50 cent short of his lunch money, and the cafeteria staff refused to give him his lunch,” Duenas said.

Duenas also has a YouTube page calling himself a 14-year-old from Staten Island who wants to make it big.
