NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City public schools will remain open Thursday despite the arriving winter storm, Mayor de Blasio’s office has confirmed.

All school field trips are canceled, however.

The decision comes despite a hazardous travel warning that is also in effect, and winter storm warnings in New York and New Jersey.

De Blasio also received criticism after he decided to keep schools open last week, with some parents angry after scrambling to get their children to school in icy, difficult conditions.

Families with busing questions should contact the Office of Pupil Transportation at 718-392-8855.

This will be fun, traveling in snow mixed with freezing rain and wind. Thanks NYC DoE, your logic is perfect. The 3 or 4 snow days a year is already set aside yet it is always wasted because of idiots in the government.

It's kind of obvious the other posters in here would resent a decision to stay indoors. It all speaks with their ridiculous grammar.

What's going on with this state of emergency? How is it possible for schools to be open, yet the mayor is warning New Yorkers to stay in and stay safe during this harsh winter storm. He's even warning us not to drive, so why is it possible that school buses are still going to be dispatched during this severe weather putting the kids, bus drivers, and bus matrons safety at risk? If the weather is suppose to be so harsh shouldn't we all stay in, stay safe and not put anyones life at risk.
