BRIGHTON BEACH, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A backhoe fatally struck a 73-year-old man in Brooklyn Monday after a winter storm dropped more than half a foot of snow over the city.

The vehicle was backing up southbound on Oceana Terrace near Brighton Beach Ave. when it struck and killed Stanslav Chernyshov, who was crossing the street in the middle of the block, police said.

The driver had been moving snow out of the Oceana Condominiums and Club at the time of the accident.  The complex is a private community and is in charge of clearing its own snow.

Paramedics found Chernyshov suffering from severe head trauma, and took him to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 33-year-old driver, who does not work for the city, stayed at the scene of the accident.

A police investigation is ongoing.
