NEW YORK (PIX11) – As mayor Bloomberg does his last lap around the city, he’s touting the city’s falling incarceration rates.

Over the last 10 years, there’s been a 36% drop in the number people in city prisons.

It’ something his administration has worked hard at over the last 12 years.

He said community outreach and alternative programs are a big reason for the drop.

The national incarceration rate is actually up 3% over the same period.
