YONKERS (PIX11) – A four-alarm fire tore through a Dollar K store at 371 South Broadway in Yonkers Thursday.

The flames threatened an apartment building next door, but firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading.

Late Thursday night, the Yonkers Fire Department was still pouring water on the stubborn fire.

“Even though you can’t see the fire in there, it is still burning in the middle and towards the rear. The roof collapsed,” Deputy Chief John Darcy said.

Darcy told PIX11 News a demolition crew will come in the morning to take down whats left of 371 South Broadway.

As a precaution, the apartment building next door was evacuated. The Red Cross said it was prepared to provide shelter for up to 200 people.

According to the YFD, seven firefighters suffered minor injuries.
