NEW YORK (PIX11) –  Two lanes of the George Washington Bridge will be closed for emergency repairs until Tuesday morning, according to the Port Authority.

Two upper-level westbound lanes were shutdown Monday morning as crews work to repair a section of the upper-level deck.  With construction slated to be completed by 2 p.m. Monday, traffic to New Jersey backed up and slowed to a crawl during the evening commute.

Traffic GWB

Workers have been trying to fill potholes and fix expansion joints on the upper roadways.

The closures will impact those commuting from New York to New Jersey. Commuters are advised to take alternate routes, such as the Lincoln or Holland tunnels.
